I saw the sweetest one in the pet shop for $1,500. That didn’t include the cage or anything else for that matter. I just thought that was high.

I was actually able to find a breeder who offered to sell one to me for $500. I am on the waiting list and can pass the breeder onto you if you’d like. The babies won’t be available until April or so, so it’s a bit of a wait. Otherwise, you are looking at $1,000-$1,500 on average for an African Grey.

Couple of things..I bought from a lady who weaned the greys from their parents. She had bought them from a breeder and hand raised them to 6 weeks old. This is too young per my avian vet. She wants them to be 21/2 to 3 months old. I had gotten a discount because I had raised birds before and helped her feed all of the birds she had. She had 64 different species, cockatoos, conures, greys, etc. I had picked my Gizmo and loved him in from the first time I saw his ***** little body. Make sure you buy one from some one who loves them and actually spends time and holds them. They are so loving right away when this happens. He still gets nippy from time to time but he is now 1 year old. All in all I paid $200.00 for him and a large cage. Check shelters in your area. There a plenty of birds out there who need good homes. Some come with cages and problems. If you check online for “bird whispers” you can find solutions to most problems they have. Most are screamers and biters. This means they are bored and scared. Treat them gently and like a child, they will love you forever. Greys are usually attached to one person, Gizmo loves me most, then my brother, my oldest son. My husband and youngest son smoke, so he doesn’t care for them too much. Good luck. You may email me if you need more info.

nope not that high we have a breeder that charges 1,000.00 for a baby so not that high . I would never purchase a bird from a pet store you run the risk of getting a sick bird . go to a breeder you will get a healthier bird and they usually give you a deal . good luck .

If you buy from a reputable breeder a Grey will cost you around $600 to $900. The pet store increase the price greatly. The prices would probably be a little lower, but Greys can be difficult to breed.

    Depends on where you are.

They’re a rare household pet in Australia so that is the usual price you’d pay, if you live in AU.

I think they’re cheaper in other countries.
