What are the effects of parrots living in enviroments with smokers?

July 12th, 2009
My mom smokes and I keep telling her to stop because it can kill our parrots. They are all in the living room and one is in the master bedroom. She lights cigarettes in the kitchen and walks through the house smoking. I keep telling her to stop, that she is killing them, what are some side effects of parrots living in this kind of environment? Enlarged heart and compressed lungs is one of them, right?

Are green bean plants safe for my parrots outdoor aviary?

July 3rd, 2009
I have an outdoor aviary with non-toxic plants in it. I have found sites with lists of safe/nontoxic plants but greens bean plants are neither on the safe or toxic list. I know the beans are ok, but does anyone know if the leaves and stems are toxic or safe for parrots? Thanks.

Why do parrots just generally like some people over others?

June 29th, 2009
I am a parrot lover and have met parrots that were either biters or standoffish, but I have made friends with them, in one case,a senegal that was reportedly a known biter, but loved to play and wrestle with my finger, another case,a female blue and gold macaw that was “flirty” and gently preened my hair while on my shoulder and when on a pet shop employee’s shoulder lunged at her head.
