her cage is beside the couch, and she goes and finds a place to hide. she still plays on your shoulder, but would rather hide in a hole. Is that ok?

she is in a new place, and it will take some time before she opens up.. just keep giving her attention so she can get to know you better and she will come out of her shell….

My female Blue Front Amazon does those kinds of things. My thoughts are this… I feel she’s looking for a place to nest, to feel comphy-cozy. As long as she’s not tearing up your couch or cushion I think it’s fine.

your bird is displaying very sexual behavior. she is hiding in her nest and sexual behavior like that should be discouraged because of hormone toxicity in pet birds. i know alot of ppl will say its fine, but you should nick things like that in the **** early to avoid problems behavioral and medical with the bird

No, something is making if feel that it needs to hide to stay safe, check out your home, What sounds does it hear, what does it see that can make it feel unsale, small children, vacuums, loud music, loud tv. smells, non-stick pans are poisonus. Is it near a window? You’d be surprised what can make a bird unsafe. Experience

She’s just shy. I have a parrotlet and most of them are shy, too. He doesn’t like perching on my finger, he’d rather I wrap him up in my hand, or he’ll hide in the pocket of my robe.

No- That is a sign that your bird is in breeding condition, and should be discouraged to prevent negative behaviors/injuries that can result from a sexually frusterated parrot.

In the wild, when a parrot seeks a dark, enclosed space; they are looking for a nesting cavity in order to breed & lay eggs in.

It’s the same thing as when a captive parrot is hiding behind the couch, in a dark, enclosed, percieved “safe” space; that means she is looking for a place to breed.

While this is normal behavior, and can’t be avoided; since parrots are wild animals; you should try and discourage petting her in her ’stimulating areas’ for the time being.

We are entering breeding season and your bird is displaying sexual breeding behavior. If you’re not planning on breeding your bird, then this should be discouraged. A sexually frustrated parrot can also become fairly aggressive too.

It may be a good time to begin trick training your bird or target training - something new to keep her mind on other things.
